The Hospital Welfare and Muslim Educational Movement's dedication and commitment are not only synonymous but are inseparable. Since the Movement first launched its bursary programme and paid out, by today's standards, the paltry sum of R720,00 the fund has over the years grown steadily. In 2007 an amount of R435 000.00 was paid out and an amount of R500 000.00 has been budgeted for the 2008 Academic Year.

 




The Movement was able to maintain the growth in the Education Fund through the generosity of its regular donors who share the Organization's determination to provide educational opportunities for the needy and almost every year new sponsors approach the Movement. As one sponsor outside the Western Cape recently said: ”Good work will always be rewarded, the loss of one donor will always be automatically replaced by one or more others”. And yes, we were always able to attract new sponsors last year several new sponsors pledged their support to the Movement. The Movement has without fail provided financial assistance to students from the disadvantaged communities for the past 40+ years.

Despite official government reports of economic growth in recent years, the cost of living has been spiraling out of control bringing untold hardship and misery in the lives of millions of individuals who had already found themselves in poor living conditions - and the government virtually powerless or unwilling to keep it in check. The Movement has established various fundraisers and events to answer the plight of these underprivileged individuals namely, Soup Kitchens, Christmas Events for pensioners, Funds for victims of Xenophobia, regularly assisting families on the Cape Flats and assisting various handicapped and welfare organisations across the Western Cape.

These are just a handful of the welfare services that HWMEM takes into its own. We strive to assist as many individuals and organisations as we can, but, we only do so much. We therefore ask the greater community, to assist us where you can, even if it is just a small donation.
