More than a decade ago the Movement anticipated the cost of tertiary education to increase way beyond the means of a great majority of the student population and the hardest hit would would be the underprivileged. Over the years the Hospital Welfare & Muslim Educational Movement has played an important role in easing the financial burden of needy students - it has assisted more than 1000 students since it launched its bursary programme. In the coming years the Movement expected more and more students to turn to institutions such as ourselves for financial assistance. We are able to provide this essential service with the help and generosity of our regular donors and the community. In order to meet this expected high demand for financial assistance, the Movement launched the Bursary Trust Fund in 1990, and a target of R250 000 was set for the Golden Jubilee Year of 1992. We were able to meet our target with the generosity of our regular donors, ex-bursars, various organisations and the general public. In order to ensure that the Movement is able to make a greater contribution in the education of future generations of our youths, we recently made a special public appeal to our ex-bursars to repay their their loans. The total recovered to-date exceeds the R100 000 mark. ONGOING BURSARY SPONSORS
